This hat looks pretty funky, but I promise, it is the softest hat you will ever feel. I really didn't want to waste such soft yarn on a small little area on the hat, so I figure there are people out there that would wear a funky hat like this and like it (me for one heh). The purple fuzzy bottom is actually lop sided a bit, but I actually like that and think it adds a little extra funky to it.

Hat 4 (maybe)
So here is hat #4 for mom. I did this one a while back, so technically it's hat .5, or I guess hat 1.
I think I'm going to trash the hat though since it is actually a little too short. When my nephew put it on, it looked kinda like a Yamaka. Also, it's made out of regular red heart wool, and though it doesn't feel scratchy, it might on her head. But still, I thought a nice hat, esp for a guy, maybe I'll just add on to the end and give it anyway. Haven't decided yet, but for now..hat #4.

Hat 3
Here is the third hat. It's the addison hat and the free pattern for it can be found here .
It's very pretty but it's also somewhat of a holey hat. The yarn I used is slightly fuzzy so I think that should be okay with the holes. Plus, since it's a light pink, I'm hoping it won't be too noticeable. It would work well on those hot days and what not. Plus, my mom didn't lose all her hair, just right at the top, so she would have been okay with this hat as long as it was comfy. I was thinking about making this hat with a even fuzzier yarn, but I have problems working with fuzzy yarns and this one was kinda hard as it was, so..I'll pass till I have more practice with fuzzy yarns.

Yarn
Just a little backstory on the yarn I have. A few months ago I saw an ad on Craigslist from a girl selling yarn for a couple bucks a ball. I called her up and went to some back alley store to look through them. I think maybe a couple balls were the same, but essentially there were 80 rolls of completely different types and colors. So I gave her a price for everything because it would have taken me a while to go through it and I thought it would be fun to have the different types.
Though I got a FANTASTIC deal, I still have a bunch of yarn that can't be worked together. Perfect for making hats. It's hard picking out 2 that will work together and that match, so I think I will be buying some basic white or off white yarn and then using that to go with all the random yarns.
And it's very annoying when I start making a hat and realize that I don't have enough to finish it and have to find another yarn to go with it. grr. But all in all, pretty awesome.
Lookie at all my yarn! Crappy phone pic :P

Hats
In May of 2007 my mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After a year of ups and downs with radiation and chemo, she passed away on June 15, 2008.
When she was diagnosed my husband and I sold our house and moved in with my parents so I could be her caretaker. Mom took care of everyone all her life and I'm lucky that I was able to take care of her that whole year.
Recently I began crocheting and remembered looking for hats when her hair started falling out. We only really found one hat that we both liked and was comfy. I wish I had started crocheting earlier so I could have made her hats to wear. So since I can't go back in time, I've decided to make some some hats in my spare time and donate them to the chemo ward. This blog is just to keep track of the hats I make for my mama.
