Another year of hats!

Just dropped off 25 hats to the chemo ward.  I also brought the nurses some lunch type pastries and some dessert pastries because they work so hard.  Another year down and time to start working on next years hats.  I probably won't start will January since this will be a pretty busy month, but who knows, maybe I'll get a couple out this month if I'm good.  I've got no big projects that are coming up (that I know of) so I should be fine with making a bunch of hats.  This past year was a bit hard making my 25 quota, but got it finished with a push at the end.  This year I also made a shrug for my mother in law, hat and scarves for my 2 aunts, a couple rugs to try and either sell or use, plus a couple hats for random people so it's been a busy crochet year.

Hat 100!!

Hat 100!  For this hat I used the Marigold Hat pattern over at Mr. Micawber's Recipe for Happiness Blog I actually left out the Marigold since it's already a busy hat and I didn't want to over do it.  I will probably be making this hat a few more times and using the Extended SC since it makes the hat a little lighter without adding big holes. All done using Caron Simply Soft Yarn.   Yay for hat 100!

Yesterday was Mom's birthday and the day I usually try to drop off my hats, but being that it was Saturday they weren't open.  I also have family in town so I will probably try and drop off the hats on Tuesday of this week.  It's been a busy month and not much crocheting going on, but will be taking a trip which means airplane crochet time plus road trip crochet time maybe.

Hat 99!

Hat 99 was done with a thin shiny yarn I had around in a HDC stitch.  I tried a few different buttons and flowers, but found these two gold hearts a friend recently gave me.  Put them on and it seems to work nicely.

Hat 98

For Hat 98 I used some acrylic worsted weight yarn, I think it might have been Vanna's Choice, but not sure.  This hat was done in the same style of the Easy Sideway's hat, but with a twist.  After each color change I'd leave a long tail before and after and then at the end I made one big knot with them.  I like the way it turned out and plan on taking out all my colors of simply soft and making a crazy colorful hat with a nice rainbow tail. And if someone wants, they can always cut the tail a bit shorter if it's too annoying.

Hat 97!

Hat 97 was made with some yellow fun fur and Caron Simply soft yarn.  I think I actually crocheted the hat around Easter and that's why I chose those colors.  I was crocheting in the spirit of spring!

Hat 96

For Hat 96 I used the Garden Party Hat pattern which I also used in Hat 90.  I actually made this one first and used Vanna's Choice yarn which made the hat a bit larger than I wanted so made Hat 90 with thinner Caron yarn make it a bit smaller. I'll probably add a bow or flower to add a little color before I give it away.

Hat 95

Hat 95 was made using one of the last few balls of my light blue Bamboo yarn and Caron Simply soft.  I used a edging from Crochet Edgings & Trims.  I had made this hat for a friend of my sisters but the edging I used had such big holes I decided to make another one with less spaces.  Time is moving quickly and Mom's birthday is coming up on the 8th.  I have 2 weeks to get everything ready to take down to the chemo ward.  Then time to begin another year of making hats.

Hat 94

For Hat 94 I had a ball of this chunky wool yarn.  I loved the colors so used the whole thing for the hat and just added a brim with some black yarn.  All done in HDC yarn.  The colors are much nicer than the picture can portray.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Baby Cocoon

Here is my version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Baby cocoon and hat!

I have a friend who is about to give birth in the next couple weeks or so.  I've been working on this for a while but mostly putting it off since I thought I had lots of time left.  I saw her recently and she's ready to go any moment now so had to rush to finish this project.

There are a couple patterns online, but I mostly free-styled it since I wasn't completely happy with any of the patterns. I was thinking about using homestyle yarn but couldn't find a color that I really liked, so instead used Caron Simply soft for the whole thing.  The cocoon is done all in a HDC stitch with 2 strands of the Simply soft yarn.  I would keep the main green and just switch out the 2nd strand for yellow, black or olive.

I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Hat 93

I think this hat is made with Lion Brand Alpine Wool yarn.  I had an skein lying around from a previous project.  Since it's such a nice yarn, I wanted to have it stand alone.  Hat done in a HDC stitch.

Hat 92

Hat 92 is me trying to use up some weird green yarn I had.  It's almost like shoelaces but a bit softer.  Paired it with a Caron Simply Soft black yarn to make a simple beanie type hat.

Hat 91

Hat 91 is a simple hat made with Lion Brand's Vanna's Choice yarn in Denim Mist.  Even though it's simple, I really like this hat, though looking at it now, I think I will add a couple flowers before I sent it out to add a little extra color.

Hat 90!!

Hat 90!!   I used the Garden Party Hat pattern by Alla Koval found on the fave crafts website. This hat was made with Caron Simply soft yarn and the brown is some Lion Homespun yarn. Being that it was a summery garden hat, I added one of my ceramic butterflies to give it a little extra color.  I love this hat pattern and will be using it again.

Hat 89

I didn't actually use a pattern for hat 89, but it's the basic Easy sideways hat you can find around the web.  It was made using Vanna's Choice yarn in a very pretty Eggplant.

Hat 88

With Hat 88 I added a few Jade beads. I think they are Jade, they might be of another stone.  My mom used to sell jewelry so I find things here and there and sometimes am not sure of the material.  I thought the beads were pretty and wanted to try and use it in a hat.  It was a bit of a pain so I doubt I'll be doing much of the hat beading thing, but it was interesting to try out.

Hat 87

Hat 87 is another hat where I used the Crochet Edgings and Trims to finish. The tan yarn is a Red Heart Soft yarn while the darker yarn is some leftover Lion Brand Homespun yarn I had.

Hat 86

For hat 86 I used some black Bamboo yarn and grey bamboo yarn that has some silver and gold coloring on it.   The Edging was taken from the book Crochet Edgings and Trims.  In the end, a kinda neat looking hat.  I'd like to try the same style during Xmas with some red and white to make a candy cane hat.

Hat 85

Hat 85 made with Caron Simply soft yarn in a HDC stitch. I had some real pretty buttons that I added to the side for a little extra decoration.

Hat 84

Hat 84 is another simple hat using some Caron Simply Soft and some really pretty red yarn I had.

Hat 83

I like hat 83 quite a lot.  I used a stitch that was in Crochet Edgings & Trims and  instead of just making it an edging, I repeated it throughout the hat.  I was thinking if I used different colors throughout it would look like a pretty flower garden.  I'll have to try that one day.

Organized Yarn!

For a while now I've thought about getting a yarn winder.  I kept putting it off thinking I could just hand roll everything and it would just be fine.  A couple weeks ago while looking at my yarn stash I could only shake my head at how unorganized and messy it was.  I went and ordered a yarn winder off of Amazon that same day.  After about a week of non stop winding I have the prettiest stash ever! I'm so happy and keep looking around the house for more yarn that I might have missed.  Definitely worth the money and finding yarn is just so much easier.

Hat 82

This past Xmas I was part of a secret Santa and my Santa got me these very cute ceramic butterfly beads.  My first thought was how cute they would look on a hat!  So I just made a basic hat and put on a cute little butterfly bead.  I love how much just a small touch can add to a hat.

Hat 81

For hat 81 I started the hat in rounds then changed it to rows to make it ribbed.  I recently bought a bunch of craft buttons so wanted to throw them into the mix too.  The hat turned out a little smaller than I wanted, but still seemed to work.
